Education Consulting and Professional Development

I help academic institutions and instructors improve test scores, close achievement gaps, and increase student engagement by:

  1. Creating professional development training on the science of how students learn and perform best

  2. Advising on how to integrate technology into the classroom

  3. Re-designing math and science curricula for the 21st century

My Philosophy & Goals for Your School and Students

  • Learning is the Ultimate Meta-Skill and Can Be Traded for Anything Else: Really think about it. If you're good at learning, you can use that skill to get good at anything you like. The potential for your improvement is infinite.
  • Any Student, Anywhere, Can Learn Anything: Maybe not in the same way or on the same day, but with enough effort and the right methods, anything.
  • Changing Your Mind is a Sign of Intelligence: Sometimes you don't need to learn anything new, you just have to unlearn what you think you know.
  • Commit to Finding Best Practices: Always be looking for new and better models of instruction and support, and find ways to scale those strategies.
  • Single Tasking is a Superpower: Students who focus on one thing at a time learn more, get less distracted, produce higher quality work, and feel less stressed. This also applies to teachers, engineers, lawyers, businessmen, etc.
  • Know Your Weaknesses: Every strategy has flaws, but don’t simply accept those. Rather, understand your goals, find the process that works best, and do your best to mitigate the issues.
  • Take Notes Everyday: Learning doesn't just happen in school. You should always be prepared to capture an observation, question, or bit of knowledge.
